Ollantaytambo is a historic town and archaeological site located approximately 60 kilometers (37 miles) northwest of Cusco. We will explore the impressive fortress and temple complex, featuring massive stone terraces and finely crafted stone walls.

Ollantaytambo was a strategic military, religious, and agricultural center during the Inca Empire. Walking through its narrow cobblestone streets, we will experience the enduring legacy of the ancient Inca civilization.

We will experience varying elevations, from Cusco’s high altitude of 3,400 meters (11,155 feet) above sea level to the lower regions of the valley. This will allow us to witness diverse landscapes and climates. We will have the opportunity to visit Machu Picchu, the legendary Inca ruin perched high in the Andes. We will explore its mysteries and admire its architectural genius.

Full DaySacred Valley of the Incas

We will begin our adventure by picking you up from your hotel at 7:00 a.m. We will drive for about one hour from the city of Cusco to the ancient archaeological site of Pisac. Along the way, we will enjoy panoramic views of the Andes and the Sacred Valley.

At Pisac, we will explore the impressive Inca ruins perched atop the mountain. We will admire the intricate agricultural terraces and marvel at the high-level Inca engineering of the urban planning. We will walk through temples, residences, and ceremonial centers, all showcasing different architectural styles.

After exploring the ruins, we will descend to the town of Pisac. We will visit the vibrant artisanal market, rich in colorful textiles, ceramics, and traditional crafts. On Sundays, we will experience the special local market where bartering is still practiced. We will also have the opportunity to observe small artisanal gold and silver workshops.

We will continue our journey through the Sacred Valley, arriving at the town of Urubamba for lunch. We will savor traditional Peruvian cuisine in the heart of the valley. After a brief rest, we will proceed to the archaeological site of Ollantaytambo.

At Ollantaytambo, we will explore the ancient Inca fortress that served as a strategic military, religious, and agricultural center. We will climb the steep terraces and appreciate the finely crafted stone work. We will immerse ourselves in a living Inca town. This is where the local population still preserves ancestral customs and urban planning from the Inca period.

We will begin our return trip to Cusco at around 4:00 p.m. We will arrive back at your hotel. This is approximately at 6:30 p.m., reflecting on a day filled with history and culture.
