We will experience the incredible 2 Day Inca Trail, known as the Short Inca Trail. This remarkable hike will take us to the breathtaking views of Machu Picchu. We will explore the stunning landscapes and rich history along the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. Our journey will provide an unforgettable adventure that combines natural beauty with ancient culture.

On the first day, we will meet our tour guide early in the morning. Afterward, we will travel to the Ollantaytambo train station. This trip will take us through picturesque valleys and lush cloud forests. We will board the train to Aguas Calientes, ready to begin our hike.

The Journey Begins

As we hike to Machu Picchu on the second day, we will discover remarkable archaeological sites. Our trail will lead us through diverse ecosystems, showcasing the region’s rich biodiversity. We will walk along ancient pathways that the Incas once used. Our tour guide will share stories that enhance our experience of visiting Machu Picchu.

Discovering The Sun Gate

Inti Punku, known as the Sun Gate, serves as the iconic entrance to Machu Picchu. Perched at an altitude of 2,730 meters (8,957 feet), it offers breathtaking panoramic views of the ancient citadel. Hikers on the Inca Trail typically arrive at Inti Punku after a scenic trek, where they have their first glimpse of Machu Picchu below.

This historical site holds great significance in Inca culture. It acted as a ceremonial gateway, welcoming the sun during the winter solstice. Itinerary

Day 1From Cusco to the Inca Trail

We will start our adventure at 5:00 AM. Our guide will pick us up at our hotel in Cusco. We will board a bus and travel to Ollantaytambo train station. This journey takes about two hours through scenic valleys.

At Ollantaytambo, we will exchange our bus for a train. The train ride will take us to KM 104, the starting point of our hike. We will begin the Short Inca Trail here.

Once we arrive, we will hike towards Chachabamba. This archaeological site will introduce us to the history of the Incas. We will continue to Wiñayhuayna, another significant archaeological site. Here, we will take a break for a delicious picnic lunch.

After our meal, we will continue hiking towards Inti Punku, the Sun Gate. This part of the trail offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains. As we approach Inti Punku, we will catch our first glimpse of Machu Picchu. We will have time to take photographs and enjoy the sunset over the ancient citadel.

In the evening, we will take a bus from Machu Picchu to Aguas Calientes. We will enjoy dinner and spend the night at our hotel in Aguas Calientes.

After the tour, we will have free time to explore Machu Picchu at our own pace. We can visit various locations, including the Temple of the Sun and the Intihuatana stone. If we wish, we can hike Huayna Picchu for a different perspective of the site.

Later, we will take the bus back to Aguas Calientes. We will have free time for lunch at one of the local restaurants.

In the afternoon, we will gather for our train ride back to Ollantaytambo. We will board the train and enjoy the scenic views during the journey. Upon arriving at Ollantaytambo, we will board a bus back to Cusco.

We expect to reach our hotel in Cusco by 9:30 PM, concluding our unforgettable adventure.
